What happens when we test a Hemet home for a slab leak?

Watch the meter
We turn off every faucet and appliance and read the meter. A dial that still moves means water is escaping somewhere. Next we close the house valve. A dial that stops puts the leak indoors; one that keeps going puts it on the line out to the street.
Rule out hot or cold
Closing the cold feed into the water heater isolates the hot side. When the leak reading falls off, a hot pipe is to blame. When it doesn't change, look to the cold side. A floor that feels warm points to hot water, but we prove it before we act.
Listen and pressure test
Our acoustic gear goes on the plumbing: valves, the heater fittings and any pipe we can reach. Sound travels along metal far better than through concrete, so we skip the floor. A gauge on an outdoor faucet backs up the finding. Thermal imaging is only a second check.

Less likely than in older parts of town, but not ruled out. The median home in 92545 was built in 1990, against 1977 in 92543. Newer copper has had less time to wear, so a leak there more often starts at a fitting or valve. The test is the same: meter, pressure, then the line.
