Poway Emergency Plumber, 24/7

No Trip Fee Free diagnosis on every emergency call. You only pay if we fix it.

Copper letting go behind a wall. A heater emptying itself across the garage slab. A downstairs shower filling up with something that should be leaving the house. Call us and the water gets stopped first, the cause gets named second, and the repair happens on the same visit wherever parts allow. A truck reaches any Poway address inside 60 minutes, whatever the clock says.

  • 60-min response, 24/7/365
  • Stop-the-water on first arrival
  • Written estimate before any work

Heads up: We’re an emergency water & drain crew. We don’t service pool/spa systems, irrigation, or natural-gas lines. Burst supply lines, failed water heaters, drain & sewer backups, leaks inside the house? We can help with that.

Emergency Plumbing in Poway, CA

What actually goes wrong in Poway homes overnight?

Poway runs its own water utility, and the shape of that system tells you a lot about the calls we take. Roughly 294 miles of main, more than 5,000 valves, 15 pump stations and 20 pressure reducing stations exist because the town climbs from about 450 feet to 2,700 feet. Water has to be lifted up to Green Valley, Lomas Verdes and The Heritage and stepped back down for the valley floor around Old Poway and Garden Road. Where a house sits well below the station feeding it, the pressure arriving at the property is considerable, and one regulator is all that stands between that and your plumbing.

When that regulator quietly fails open, nothing announces it. Pressure climbs past what fixtures are built for and starts working on the weakest components: braided washing machine hoses, angle stops nobody has turned in twenty years, the nipples on top of a water heater, and any copper already thinned from the inside. Those parts tend to surrender when the house is asleep, which is exactly why the overnight hours are our busiest window rather than the working day.

Water heaters are the other steady source. At around 15 grains of hardness, the supply here lays scale down inside a tank faster than soft water does, and a heater that should have lasted a dozen years starts weeping from the seam somewhere short of that. Add drain lines that have quietly narrowed over decades and the pattern is consistent: burst supply lines first, heaters second, main line backups third. We stock the truck accordingly, so most of these end the same night they start.

What we handle on an emergency call

What we get called out to in Poway after hours

The failures differ, the situation rarely does: water arriving where it should not be, or refusing to leave. Whatever it turns out to be, the sequence is the same. Stop it spreading, work out what broke, put a price in writing, then repair.

Split Pipe and Pinhole

Copper that has finally opened up, a stop valve that let go, a laundry hose that split at the crimp. We isolate the section, cut out what failed, and join in new pipe on the same visit. Most of these are finished before we leave.

  • Isolated at the nearest valve or meter
  • Section replaced and pressure-tested
  • Only the drywall we genuinely need
See triage method

Regulator and Main Valve Failure

The regulator stuck open and feeding the house far more pressure than it was designed for, or a main shutoff that will no longer close when you need it most. The component meant to protect everything else is often the first to go. We replace it on site.

  • Ball valve or regulator replaced
  • Static pressure measured after fitting
  • Meter-side shutoff arranged if needed

Water Heater Emergencies

Cold showers on a holiday weekend, a tank pooling across the garage floor, a relief valve venting because something upstream is wrong. Tanks in the common sizes ride with us, and tankless service parts are in stock.

  • Tank replacement the same day
  • Tankless flush, ignitor, and sensor work
  • Seismic straps and expansion tank to code

Drain and Sewer Backups

A toilet that keeps rising, a downstairs shower gurgling, several fixtures misbehaving at once. That pattern points at the main line rather than one trap. We cable it, jet it where it needs jetting, and put a camera down after.

  • Cable auger or high-pressure jetting
  • Camera survey of the main line
  • Cleanout located and opened

Fixtures That Will Not Stop

A toilet overflowing past its wax ring, a faucet that will not shut, a shower cartridge jammed on full hot. Unglamorous, urgent, and usually solvable from what is already on the truck.

  • Wax rings, fill valves, supply lines
  • Cartridges, stems, and trim
  • Toilets, faucets, and stop valves

Our Method

What happens between your call and our arrival?

Most of the damage in a plumbing emergency is not done by the failure. It is done in the half hour somebody spends hunting for a valve they have never had to touch. So the phone call does real work: while a truck is already moving, our dispatcher talks you through stopping the water where you stand. The aim is that the flooding has ended before we reach the curb.

On site it runs in a fixed order every time. Contain, diagnose, price in writing, then repair. Nothing is cut, pulled, or snaked until you have seen the number and agreed to it.

01

Get the water off

On the phone we work outward from the failure to the nearest thing that will stop it: a fixture stop valve, the inlet at the heater, a hose bib, or the main at the front of the property. The couple of minutes this saves is often the difference between drying a room and replacing a ceiling.

02

Deal with the electrics

Water near outlets, near an appliance, or sitting above a ceiling means the breaker goes off before we arrive. Where the heater itself is the source, gas is closed at the appliance and electric heaters go off at the panel.

03

The truck leaves loaded

Stop valves, flexible connectors, PEX, heater fittings, wax rings, fill valves, cartridges, and a drain machine travel with us as standard. Most jobs never need a parts run, which matters at two in the morning when nothing is open.

04

Contain and identify on arrival

First thing through the door is confirming the water really is off and nothing is still spreading. Then we find the component that failed. On a burst supply line that is usually visual and quick. On a drain backup it takes longer, because the cause sits some distance from the symptom.

05

A price before anything happens

You get the repair written down and itemized before a single tool is used. Rate, parts, labor, and the hour band it falls in. Where a claim is likely, we mark the lines the adjuster is going to want to see.

06

Repair, prove it, record it

Supply work is pressure-tested, drains are flow-tested, heaters get their relief valve and gas pressure checked. Photographs of what failed and what replaced it go to you, and to your insurer if one is involved.

Six reasons people hesitate

The reasons people wait, and why none of them hold up.

Almost everyone hesitates before calling out a plumber at an awkward hour. The water does not hesitate. In our experience the pause comes down to one of six thoughts, so here is a straight response to each.

None of them are unreasonable. All of them cost money if you act on them.

Cali's Choice service van outside a Poway home at night, lights on, ready to dispatch

It is the middle of the night.

Then it is a normal call for us. The line is answered at three in the morning by the same people who answer it at three in the afternoon, and the response window does not change.

Hidden leak inside a wall cavity: cracked copper supply line dripping behind drywall, baseboard stain just starting to show

Maybe this is not bad enough to bother anyone.

If water is moving where it should not, call. Part of what you get on that call is an honest answer about whether it can wait until the morning, and quite often it can.

Cutaway view of a Poway home showing supply lines running through walls and a slab leak under the floor — locating it is our job, not yours

I have no idea where it is coming from.

Nor should you. Locating it is our first job, not a prerequisite for booking us. Nothing needs pulling apart before we get there.

Close-up of a cracked copper supply line dripping inside the wall cavity, behind torn drywall — the kind of failure we scope and price before we open anything

I am afraid of what it will cost.

You see the scope and the price before anything begins, at any hour, and nothing proceeds without your agreement. The diagnosis itself costs nothing.

A Cali's Choice van rolls into a quiet Poway neighborhood at night, headlights on, while a homeowner waits inside — 60-minute response, any hour

Somebody else already told me tomorrow at the earliest.

We can be with you inside the hour, anywhere in town, tonight. That is what running a real after-hours crew rather than an answering service means.

Photographs, file folders, and a written scope laid out on a tile floor — the insurance documentation packet we hand you on every covered claim

This might be an insurance matter.

It may well be. If so we assemble the documentation as part of the job: photographs, cause of loss, scope, and the conversation with your carrier.

Emergency Plumbing Insurance Claims

The claim is ours to assemble, not yours.

A pipe that opened up or a heater that emptied itself will usually have wetted flooring, drywall, and whatever was underneath. That makes it one of the most heavily documented losses a household policy sees. Carriers want cause of loss set out in writing, photographs of the actual failed component, pressure evidence, and a line-itemed scope. One piece missing and the file waits while the damp works its way outward.

We build that file as part of the job and speak to the adjuster ourselves. You should not have to learn claims administration on the worst night of your year.

What we handle on every emergency claim:
  • Cause of loss set out in writing: what actually gave way, be that a heater seam, a supply hose, or a stop valve, together with the age of the installation.
  • The photographic file, covering the failed component, everything the water reached, the pressure reading taken at the meter, and the replacement in place.
  • A scope itemized against the hour band the work fell in, plus a second scope wherever the call has exposed a larger repair waiting behind it.
  • Direct dealings with the adjuster from our side. If they query the file we answer it, and if they want more we send more.
  • Where the emergency traces back to a tired run or a line in the slab, we get the recommended repipe or reroute onto the same claim rather than leaving it to surface later.

Emergency Plumbing Pricing

How much does an emergency plumber cost in Poway?

There is no single number here and anyone quoting one over the phone is guessing. A stop valve swapped at one in the morning is a modest bill. A heater replaced with bracing and code work brought up to date is several thousand. What we can do is set out plainly what determines which end of that you are at, so the estimate you sign reads as arithmetic.

What moves an emergency call up or down

What broke

A stop valve or a burst laundry hose is the small end. Copper split inside a wall sits higher. A heater that failed and took the surrounding fittings with it is higher still. Ten minutes on site places you on that scale.

The hour on the clock

There is a daytime rate, an evening rate, and an overnight and holiday rate. All three are shown to you before you sign anything. Nothing gets added afterwards for the inconvenience of the hour.

How buried the failure is

An exposed fitting is quick work. The same failure inside a finished ceiling means opening it, replacing the section, and patching it afterwards, and all three are in the quote.

Whether the part is on board

The truck carries what these jobs usually need. Occasionally something unusual, a non-standard heater or an obsolete cartridge, needs a daylight parts run. That moves the timing rather than the scope.

What the water has already ruined

Anything soaked before we arrived is a separate scope from the plumbing repair and does not appear on our plumbing invoice. We document it so your claim can carry it.

Is this bad enough to call at two in the morning?

If water is escaping and you cannot stop it, yes. Split supply lines, a heater emptying itself, sewage rising in a fixture, or a main valve that will not close all qualify. So does a meter turning with everything shut off. A slow drip under a sink almost certainly does not, and we will say so on the phone.

How quickly can somebody actually reach me?

Inside 60 minutes to any Poway address, every day of the year. Pomerado and Poway Road cover Old Poway and the valley floor, Espola and Twin Peaks take us up to Green Valley, and Scripps Poway Parkway reaches Poway Business Park. Overnight the roads are empty, which is when most of these calls come in.

I cannot find my shutoff valve. What now?

Call and stay on the line, our dispatcher will talk you to it. On most homes here it sits on the exterior wall nearest the street, often close to a hose bib. If it is seized or missing, the meter can be closed with a standard meter key, which every one of our trucks carries.

The city left a tag about high usage. Is that an emergency?

It is a warning worth acting on the same day. Shut everything off and watch the meter, and if it still turns you have a live leak. Two reasons to move: the water is going somewhere, usually into ground or a wall cavity, and the city’s leak credit runs on a 30-day clock from the day you were notified.

Whose responsibility is it, mine or the city's?

The meter is the boundary. Everything on the house side of it is yours, and that is where we work. A failure in the main or in the city’s own equipment is theirs, and they run crews across roughly 294 miles of pipe for exactly that. If the problem turns out to sit on their side, we tell you and you pay nothing.

Do you charge a call-out fee or a night premium to turn up?

No fee to attend and no premium simply for arriving. The diagnosis is free and you only pay if we carry out the repair. There is a higher labor rate for evenings, overnights and holidays, and it appears as its own line on the estimate before you agree to anything.

My heater has died on a holiday weekend. Same day?

Nearly always. Tanks in the common domestic sizes travel with us in both gas and electric, along with the usual tankless service parts. The exceptions are unusual installations, point-of-use units and indirect-fired systems, which may need a weekday parts run. Hard water here is rough on tanks, so we see a lot of these.

Sewage is coming up in the downstairs shower. What does that mean?

That it is the main line, not that shower. Waste backs up at the lowest opening in the house, so the lowest fixture is where it shows regardless of where the blockage sits. Roots and grease are the usual culprits. We clear it the same night, camera it afterwards, and tell you whether that is the end of it.

Once the water is off, how do you find where it was leaking?

Stopping the flow is the first job, locating the source is the second. That is our leak detection work: acoustic equipment on the pipework plus a pressure test, rather than opening surfaces to look. If the failed line is inside the concrete, the answer is slab leak repair, rerouted overhead rather than through your floor.

Will my policy pay for any of this?

Typically the damage yes, the plumbing no. Most HO-3 wordings cover sudden and accidental escape of water, so soaked flooring, drywall and drying out usually fall inside the policy while the repair to the failed pipe or appliance sits outside it. We document both halves so the adjuster is not interpreting, and we deal with them directly.

Does this kind of work need a permit?

Some of it. Water heater replacement, gas work and sewer line replacement are generally permitted through Development Services at City Hall on Civic Center Drive. Like-for-like emergency repairs, a burst section of supply line or a stop valve or a fixture swap, generally are not. We tell you which applies and what the fee is before we start, not afterwards.
